Cadence's Birth Story

November 6, 2012

The evening of November 6th I was not feeling well. I knew something wasn't right. I was only 36 weeks and had been on bedrest for 4 weeks as most of you know due to high blood pressure. I had the worst headache ever all day, nausea and vomiting, and just didn't feel right. Irregular contractions that never seemed to get worse. My BP was 160/90's the whole evening. Cadence was moving normally but I was still worried. Mike was working so I called the hospital and decided to go in and get checked out. I was so relieved to see Mike! I was trying to stay calm because I knew my BP would only go up!

Mike checked my BP which was no better so into the wheelchair I went and he took me up to the OB Unit. I had the sweetest nurse check us in. MY BP was now 190!!! I was hooked up to monitors and Cadence was doing great, me not so much. My BP was staying up and my head was splitting! Then my contractions started to happen every 3-5 minutes but were not painful. I was dilated to a 1, which is so not impressive! My Dr admits me so the next day he would decide what to do. Little did I know I would get to see my sweet girl!! I did not know the only cure for me was to deliver her. The day before she passed her biophysical test with flying colors and was predicted to be 8.5 lbs already! So these things put me at ease.

Mike went back down to work so I could get some rest. haha I could not sleep! So I layed in bed watching QVC and listened to my sweet girls heartbeat all night.

The next morning Dr Hopf came in and talked with us about vaginal vs csection and my health risks at this point. I had not dilated and my BP was no better. After a long talk and going back and forth we decide to do the csection!!! And this is when I finally got really nervous!! I was feeling so many emotions. We quickly got on the phone to call family and as soon as I heard my moms voice I cried like crazy! From that moment to the delivery room it was somewhat of a blur. Everything moved very quickly!

I had hoped and prayed I would get a sweet girl I knew, Megan, as my nurse. God delivers!! In she walks for her shift and she was with me thru the csection preparations. I probably broke her arms when I got my spinal becuase I was so nervous I was just squeezing her.

Everything was going well until the spinal went too high and it caused me to have trouble breathing! As a nurse it was even harder because I knew the words they were saying and the tools they were grabbing to support my breathing. Let me tell ya! Scariest thing ever. All I wanted to say was where is Mike and how is my baby but I couldnt get the words out!! Thankfully they raised me up and did a few other things to resolve my breathing issuses. I heard them check Cadence and then brought Mike in the room which comforted me. I thank God so much for watching over me and Cady during that time.

Then at 0952 am while Lynyrd Skynyrd was playing on the radio we heard the best sound ever, the cry of our sweet girl!! My life forever changed! I can't explain the feeling. I was instantly in love and could not quit crying. Labor and delivery did not go as planned or as expected but it is our story and I will never ever forget a second of it.

The birth of a child is nothing short of a miracle and I am amazed each day at God's work when I look into my sweet Cadence's beautiful eyes! I am so so Thankful for this blessing!
